Residential Curbside Garbage and Recycling Program
The Town of Fort Macleod has contracted GFL Environmental Inc. to provide residents with a curbside garbage and recycling program. We are happy to provide weekly garbage pickup and bi-weekly recycling pick up, for the collection schedule please click here.
Pick-up dates are scheduled to change on statutory holidays, so to keep up-to-date on these changes, as well as critical events and day-to-day communications you can download the Voyent Alert! App or register online to receive email, voice, or text/based alerts at https://voyent-alert.com/ca/community/#registration. Registration is free, simple and anonymous.
Collection Days for Residents
We have two current zones for pick up:
- Zone 1 (North) has collection on Thursdays.
- Zone 2 (South) has collection on Fridays.
Use this map to see what zone you are in. Still unsure? Contact the Operations Department at the Town of Fort Macleod and we would be happy to assist you.
On collection day please have garbage and recycling bins to the collection spot by 7:00am, you can pick up when emptied, or after 7:00pm that day.
Think your pick up has been missed? Please remember to have your cart out from 7:00am - 7:00pm collection days and if it still hasn't been collected please call the Town of Fort Macleod Office at 403-553-4425 or Report a Problem here.
Cart Placements
- Carts should be at least 3 feet (1 meter) apart.
- There should be at least 10 feet (3 meters) above your carts.
- Please ensure bins are at least 3 feet (1 meter) away from any obstacles on either side.
Cart Care
Residents are responsible for cleaning and storing carts. If your cart has been damaged or is missing please call the Town Office at 403-553-4425 or Report a Problem here.
Recycling
While residents have a blue bin for recycling, the Town also provides a GLASS ONLY recycling trailer at 865 30th Street South (next to the compost area).

Stronger Bin Latches
The Town of Fort Macleod is conducting a study to test out stronger garbage/recycling bin latches to keep the lids secured when closed.
If you would like to participate in this study, please call the Town office, or contact the Operations department.
Compost and Bulk Recycling Depot
The Town of Fort Macleod operates a Community Composting Site and Bulk Recycling Depot, both of which are located at 865 30th Street. This site is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
The Compost Site accepts tree clippings, tree branches and grass clippings.

Community Clean Up's
The Town of Fort Macleod is happy to offer multiple clean-ups two times a year, see below for our different collections:
- Household Waste
- Residents wanting to get rid of some household garbage can go to the Town Office a few weeks prior to this collection and pick up vouchers. Residents will have the option to take a few items to a location in town or take bulk garbage to the Willow Creek Landfill.
- Yard Waste
- This is for compostable materials only. Leaves, grass and tree trimmings may be placed in your back alley prior to the Town's Collection date. Please do not use bags of any kind.
- Electronic Waste Round Up
- This service is for household electronic waste only, no other materials, refrigerants, large appliances or liquids will be accepted.
- Hazardous Waste
- GFL Technicians will be on-site during this clean-up to collect all hazardous materials, "Toxic, flammable, corrosive and reactive products."
Spring Clean-Up
Our Spring Clean-Up is typically the week following the Victoria Day Holiday in May, and includes the following collections:
- Household Waste Clean-Up
- Yard Waste Clean-Up
- Electronic Waste Round-Up
- Hazardous Waste Clean-Up
Fall Clean-Up
Our Fall Clean-Up is typically the week following Thanksgiving in October, and includes the following collections:

- Electronic Waste Round-Up
Willow Creek Landfill
The Willow Creek Landfill Facility is located at 113053 Range Road 263 -South of Township 114 (Nw-22-11-26-W4th) for map location, click here.
