About
- 1st year - 100% municipal property tax exemption
- 2nd year - 75% municipal property tax exemption
- 3rd year - 50% municipal property tax exemption
Qualifications
You may be eligible to qualify to apply for a non-residential exemption if you meet the following criteria:
- There is a $50,000 increase in the assessed value of the non-residential property from the previous year as a result of new construction or expansion.
- You have no outstanding monies owing to the Town of Fort Macleod.
- The non-residential property is located in the geographical boundaries of the Town of Fort Macleod.
- All required building and development permits have been obtained for the qualifying property.
Application
Applicants of qualifying properties must submit a complete application to the Director of Finance with a $100.00 non-refundable application fee by March 31st of the year in which the exemption is to commence.
Any complete applications received after March 31st of the given year will be considered for an exemption for the following year.
Complete applications should be submitted in the year following substantial completion of the Construction/Expansion. This means the following year's property tax notice will show the increased assessment including the construction/expansion and is the tax year to submit the complete application.
Complete applications may be approved by Council after consideration. If approved, a Tax Incentive Agreement shall be drafted and mailed to the applicant/property owner for execution.

- The qualifying property is zoned Residential Multi-Unit: R-MU1 pr R-MU2 as per the Town of Fort Macleod Land Use Bylaw.
- There is a minimum $400,000 increase in the assessed value of the residential multi-unit property from the previous year as a result of new construction or expansion.
- There are a minimum of four units or dwellings on the property.
- You have no outstanding monies owing to the Town of Fort Macleod.
- The property is located in the geographical boundaries of the Town of Fort Macleod.
- All required building and development permits have been obtained for the qualifying property.
