Barracks

Description:
A summer view of the barracks of the Royal North West Mounted Police. This photo was taken sometime after 1905, as prior to that time the force was known as the North West Mounted Police.

The North West Mounted Police (N.W.M.P.) had "Royal" bestowed on them in 1904 by King Edward VII, to mark the brilliant and steadfast services rendered during the Boer War in South Africa. Therefore,to be correct, the North West Mounted Police (N.W.M.P.) existed from 1873 to 1904, at which point they became the Royal North West Mounted Police (R.N.W.M.P.). In 1920, this force took over the duties of the Dominion Police Force and became the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (R.C.M.P.).
