The Town of Fort Macleod operates a recycling program for the community.

Products That We Currently Recycle

1. Newsprint & Magazines (7 Bins)
2. Mixed Paper (1 Bin)
3. Shredded Paper (1 Bin)
4. Cardboard (6 Bins)
5. Clear Glass (1 Bin)
6. Tin Cans (1 Bin)
7. All Clear & Coloured Plastic Containers (1 Bin)

Newsprint & Magazines

  • catalogues (small)
  • newspaper (inserts can stay in paper)
  • all glossy magazines, coupons
  • must be clean & dry
  • no plastic ties, strings or bags

Mixed Paper

  • white & coloured copy paper - manilla file folders
  • coated & uncoated paper - envelopes (no windows)
  • computer paper - junk mail (no plastics)

Shredded Paper

  • Shredded paper must be bagged. (This is the only item in the trailer that is allowed to be bagged!) Please tie up the top of bag to prevent spillage.

Cardboard

  • Must be FLATTENED
  • NO  Plastic Liners or Styrofoam
  • Corrugated boxes - cereal boxes
  • Pizza boxes (wax paper removed)
  • Kleenex boxes (plastic removed)
  • Construction paper - brown paper bags
  • All cardboard must be clean and dry & no plastics

Clear Glass

  • Labels need not be removed
  • MUST be clean
  • No colored glass
  • Lids MUST be removed (place in tin can bin)
  • NO lightbulbs, windows, chinaware, porcelain, or ceramics
  • Clear glass ONLY

Tin Cans

  • Any household Metal Cans (aluminum/tin)
  • Metal lids from glass jars
  • Clean
  • Labels removed

Plastic Coloured & Clear Containers 

  • Bleach, Soap, Fabric Softener, Vegetable Oil, Vinegar
  • Will accept  #2, #3, #4, #5, #6
  • Remove Lids
  • Rinse thoroughly   NO MILK JUGS
  • Crush Larger Containers
  • Labels need not be removed
  • NO MOTOR OIL CONTAINERS!!

Plastic Milk Jugs

  • MUST NOW BE TAKEN TO:   MnM Bottle Depot on Main Street
  • Rinse with COLD water (PLEASE REMOVE LIDS)
  • Crush Jugs
  • Labels need not be removed

To aid in the efficiency of the recycling process:

  • PLEASE  SORT  YOUR PRODUCTS
  • SHREDDED PAPER MUST BE BAGGED

Products Not Accepted in Recycling Trailer

  • Plastic Milk Jugs
  • Carbon Paper, Tin Foil, Wax Paper, Paper Towel
  • Wood, Rubber Bands, Paper Clips
  • Waxed Cardboard & Milk / Juice Cartons
  • Books with Glued or Wired Bindings
  • Styrofoam (egg cartons, packing chips, etc.)
  • Wrapping paper (all types)
  • Paint Cans, Aerosol Cans, Varsol Cans
  • Batteries
  • Plastic Bags Except Those Filled With Shredded Paper
  • Telephone Books (There is a seperate bin beside the recycling trailer for these)
  • Used Oil, Oil Filters & Oil Jugs (Return for recycling to UFA Bulk Fuel
     at  214-13th Street)

Additionally, the Town operates a community composting site south of the cemetery.

Town Compost Site Accepts

  • Tree Clipings
  • Tree Branches
  • Grass Clippings

Help yourself to:

  • Wood Chips and Compost Only.
  • Please remember to take Plastic Bags home with you.
