Recreation / Culture
The Town supports a wide variety of recreation/cultural facilities. See the Town Map for their locations.
Swimming Pool The outdoor swimming pool is open for the season with lots of new equipment and activities for the whole family to enjoy. The schedule for the 2005 season is available here.
River Valley Wilderness Park This park encompasses approximately 600 acres of river valley land. It has designated areas for horseback riding, canine exercise (leash free area), picnicking, hiking, biking and bird watching. Most of the park area is a wilderness preserve with minimal development allowed. There are approximately three km of developed walking trails. Sightings of deer, raccoons, owls, and beaver are common experiences.
Multi-Use Parks There are a number of multi-use parks throughout Town. Click on the Town Map for their locations.
Arena The Fort Macleod And District Recreation Centre is a multi use facility located in the center of Town. Facilities located here are the Skating Rink (indoor of course!), Curling Rink (four sheets), Swimming Pool (outdoor) and Skate Park.
Baseball We have some of the finest baseball facilities in Southern Alberta. The Volunteer Park (Westwinds Stadium) baseball facility is a full service facility with four slow pitch diamonds and one hardball diamond. The facility also has a concession stand, bleachers and a playground. This facility is the home to the Fort Macleod Royals of the Montana Northern District American Legion League.
In addition to this facility we have a Little League Ball Park with two diamonds for the little folk and the F.P. Walshe field at the high school.
Curling The Fort Macleod Curling Club has a four sheet facility located at the Fort Macleod and District Recreation Centre. This facility is available for private bookings all year round.
Golf The Fort Macleod Golf Club is a beautiful nine hole facility located in the river valley. It was the first golf club developed in western Canada. It features grass greens and a licensed clubhouse.
Equestrian In addition to the riding areas in the River Valley Wilderness Park, the Town is home to the Fort Macleod and District Agricultural Society. This Society operates an "Indoor Riding Arena" and the Midnight Stadium Rodeo Grounds. To access these facilities contact the Ag Society at (403) 331-8048.
Tennis There are two tennis courts located at the local high school. These courts are available to the public year round.
Track And Field Full track and field facilities are available on the public grounds adjacent to the F.P.Walshe High School.
Skateboarding The town boasts a newly developed Skate Park adjacent to the Recreation Center.
Theatre The Empress theatre is the oldest continually operating live theatre venue in Alberta. The building is a Designated Provincial Historic Resource. Extensively renovated and restored in the late eighties it is the Jewel of Main Street. For programming or rental info, Visit the Empress Theatre web site.
Halls There are two generally available halls for private rental:

Museum The Town is home to the Fort, Museum of the North West Mounted Police. Visit the Fort Museum web site to learn more about this world class facility!
